The East Texas Community Newspapers group is a cluster of 15 twice-weekly and weekly newspapers serving a series of isolated markets in the northeastern corner of the state. Served by a central printing site and centralized business functions, the group provides an excellent platform for advertisers in the region to reach several market areas with multiple insertions handled in one office. The East Texas group consists of three paid twice-weekly newspapers in Carthage/Panola County, Atlanta, and New Boston (all located in the eastern side of the market area) and 12 paid weeklies in communities located east of Dallas between and along Interstates 20 and 30. Total paid circulation is approximately 37,000 and approximately 13,000 free. Two of the newspapers are Atlanta and Carthage supplemented by mailed shoppers.
Each newspaper is a unique product written and produced at local offices spread throughout the market. However, some news stories are shared among newspapers, particularly among newspapers located in the same county where readers have similar interests in county government coverage, high school sports, and other information. The papers are staffed primarily with two to three reporters/editors depending on the size of the community, assisted by stringers.
Most of the newspapers run an average of 12 to 20 pages per week in a single section. Some of the twice-weeklies are printed in two sections. Color is used on the front pages. All of the publications are printed in a broadsheet format with a 50-inch width.
The newspapers are mailed each week to subscribers from local post offices for same-day delivery on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The company performs a regional telemarketing promotional effort once a year using in-house callers. Paid circulation has been steady in recent years.
